Hello Folks,
not much updates here during the last weeks, reason is quite simple: I was in vacation and got a lot of work on my table after i was back in the office. 🙂
Since the upcoming firmware releases from IGEL a new category will be added. In the category “New feature highlight” i will introduce you new “cool” features coming with the latest firmware or other important changes coming with a release.
Stay tuned
Michael

Hello Folks,
as replacement for the forum i’ve added a Q&A Feature to the blog, you need to be a registered user to ask or answer questions. The Q&A Feature can be accessed thru the Menu on the right side (Q&A @ cloud-client.info).
Cheers

Hello Folks,
we’re close to the 1.500.000 visitors mark and after looking at some facts we are doing some changes.
1) The Forum will be discontinued since today, there will be something as alternative to ask questions in the future but it seams to be that the time for old school forum’s is gone and it doesn’t make sense to use resources on this in the future. Thanks to all registered users and i hope it’s not to bad for you! If you are a native german speaker check out www.igelfreun.de. All personal user information’s will be deleted without any backup to keep the registered user data save.
2) The blog is renamed from “Unofficial IGEL Thin Client Blog” to “blog@cloud-client.info” regarding the fact that other cloud solutions got a bigger impact to this blog in the last time, IGEL Thin and Zero Clients will be still a main focus. So no worry…
3) In the upcoming weeks a “small” cloud-client.info App will be available in the Windows App Store (Windows 8(.1) and RT), work is nearly done (~90%). The App will be for free with no Ads and no in-app sales crap. Stay tuned! The App will not be available for Android or IOS but if someone is intrested to port it just send me an email. 😉
4) UMS Online is still continued… 🙂

Hello Folks,
i just made some tests but it doesn’t look like the IGEL Universal Management Suite is affected by the Heartbleed issue.
You can test against our public UMS Server if you like but here is the result:
I’ve tested the console port 8443 and the client connection port 30001, in both cases the results are ok and did not show up any Heartbleed related issue.
Cheers
Michael
P.S.: Please note that I run only a test for the last Version 4.06.100 of the IGEL Universal Management Suite and that my test is not an official statement from IGEL Technology!
Hello Folks,
for a limited time you can use a free service provided by cloud-client.info called UMS4 Live.
What is it? A public available online UMS4, you can use it for tests (GUI handling) or if you’re looking for a configuration or configuration settings. The Alpha Version require to have an installed IGEL UMS4 Console (Version 4.06.100) available, you can use this console to connect to the UMS Live server.
Please Note:
1) We do not guarantee any availability, performance or anything else, you should not use it for public demonstrations or similar!
2) We are not responsible for any damage caused by the use of this service at all!
3) We can stop this service at anytime regarding misusage, hacking or any other “not” wanted use!
4) You do not get any write access to the database, configurations or similar! Read access incl Profile export is allowed.
5) You can not add a Thin Client, deploy a firmware update or similar thru this service!
6) This service is not related to IGEL Technology in any kind!
7) This service comes as it is without any support!
8) By using this service you agree that the related network traffic incl. the use of this service will be monitored for internal use only.
9) The service will be online until the first of April 2014, depending on the usage data this service will be continued or not.
Connection:
Start the UMS Console and use the following connection settings:
Universal Management Suite Server: ums.cloud-client.info
Port: 443
User Name: ums
Password: live
Required UMS console: IGEL Universal Suite 4.06.100
Access to the UMS internal Webserver on Port 9080 is blocked!

Michael
P.S.: This service is hosted by Windows Azure!
Hello Folks,
maybe you already noticed the UD3 Facelift announced by IGEL in the last weeks, but what do it mean for you as user?
From the technical point… Not much, the biggest new technical change is the extension foot (see below) which now contains two RS232 Ports. For the end user there will be some changes in the handling.
– The front USB hatch will be more stable and easier to handle
– The power switch is now a contact switch, means the User only needs to touch it (compare it to the Xbox 360 power switch)
– The case is “more” green by having no mixed material in the case which means it’s easier to recycle
– The power LED is now located as eye of the IGEL symbol (Eye of the hedgehog)
– The device is a little bit smaller than the old UD3, mostly related to the new “smaller” foot coming with the device
– Easier access to the RJ45 network connector
From the Operating System Side and the other technical specs it looks quite similar, like already mentioned; so it’s clearly a facelift from the optical point of view and for the user “handling”. Iam sure a lot of people will like it and a lot of people will also don’t like it but at least this is a question of personal preference.
I will post some more details after i got a trial device, but i believe the device has made some good progress for the end user handling at all.
Cheers
Michael
P.S.: The title comes from my first impression after i saw the new design, i remembered the first time i saw the “black” Darth Vader outfit. 🙂
Hi Folks,
i got some fun with my hosting provider, a WordPress update and some WordPress Plugin’s iam using, this result in a black out for this blog today.
Sorry for that!
Michael
Hello Folks,
maybe you have already noticed that i changed the header for this blog, i’ve now also replaced/modified the search feature a little bit. What is now the difference? It’s quite simple, it’s a google custom search and if you want to search for a special term it will look at all IGEL Technology resource sites incl. the IGEL Websites, Citrix, all cloud-client.info sites and more.
Why do i mention it? If you know or miss a good resource site that covers cloud-computing and also have valuable IGEL related content i will be happy to add it to this custom search (Valuable content does not mean “sale” something, it means providing know how for me! Ok.. 😉 )
Cheers
Michael
Hello Folks,
since the Universal Desktop W7 3.07.100 you might noticed that the product name/description has been changed.
Old names like UD3-720 W7 or UD5-740 LX are gone away to a more easier description.
The new syntax will be UD(Hardware)-Operating System + feature extensions. Sounds crazy? Ok, here is a sample:
Old: UD3-740 W7 New: UD3-W7 cp
Possible extensions:
p = PowerTerm Emulation (Requires an extra License now which can be received for free from IGEL)
s = Shared Workplace (Extra Login feature for AD based Users and to assign profiles in the UMS to these users, requires a seperate sold license)
c = Codec Package (Multimedia Codecs, seperate sold license regarding the fact that multimedia codecs are not for free for business use)
u = Universal Multi Display (Seperate sold license to support more then two Displays)
If you upgrade a device it depends on the current feature set what type of extension(s) will be available, a device with the Advanced License will get c and p, a device with a Standard License will get only the p and an old Entry License will receive no extensions at all.
So it’s not really hard to translate…
Regarding the new IGEL Zero Clients it’s also quite simple; first of all the new Zero Clients are not Universal Desktop devices and this means: UD for Universal Desktop will be replaced thru IZ for IGEL Zero. Also the Hardwareplatform is coded in the name, if you want a hardware that is similar to the UD3 the name will be IZ3. Simple or not?
Now you have three Zero Client solutions available: HDX (Citrix), RFX (Microsoft) and Horizon (VMWare).
So if you want a Zero Client based on the UD3 Hardware it’s a IZ3-RFX, for VMWare View it’s IZ3-Horizon and IZ3-HDX for Citrix. There are no extra features/extensions available for the Zero Clients so we can skip this part.
Intresting: If you decide to upgrade a IZ Client to the more flexible UD Platform, this can be done but it requires an extra license (..on the other side it helps saving your investment in case that you move from one solution to an other one).
I will explain this in more detail in the Hardware Overview Whitepaper but regarding the fact that i’ve currently much to do it can take some time for the update.
Cheers
Michael
